Memphis

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

After missing two shows in Norman and Little Rock due to the alternator setback, we left the Volmer residence for Memphis. It was difficult to return to the humid southern heat after spending time in the dry heat of the southwest. We arrived in Memphis early and bummed around for a while. Some of our good friends from Murfreesboro decided to ride up for the show, it was great to see them. We also reunited with Jessi, who would join us for the next six days. After the show we decided to pull an all night ride to Montevallo, Alabama. We performed some automotive olympics to help keep Hank awake. Four people in the front seat!

Santa Fe Alternator Destruction!!!

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

We left Phoenix and drove 8 hours to Santa Fe. Our vehicle is dead. The alternator stopped charging the battery. We are going to try to get it fixed tomorrow morning. We should still be able to make the Norman show. Santa Fe is pretty sweet. We were left with the key to the venue, so for the next few hours we have our own warehouse space.

Go Into The Light Until We Meet Again!

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

We made it to Hollywood! Well, I did at least. I arrived a day early in order to investigate the city’s potential for habitation. It’s a pretty intimidating place, but a lot of my interests are centered there. I ended up riding my bike 35 miles around Hollywood and the beaches. Needless to say, I now have sunburn. Everyone else showed up yesterday and we finally got to meet the force that is David Liebe Hart. He is quite the individual. We learned about the railway system, Korendians, and metaphysical rockabilly. He also drew a picture of Jenna and I as Korendians. We have a video and will try to post it soon. Anyway, we were all blown away by meeting the man in person, until we were attacked by ninjas. Ninja Academy was awesome. They played a great blend of instrumental math rock. Perhspace was a cool venue and we hope to get another show in LA sometime in the future.

Sacramentooooooooo

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

We got to play two shows in Sacramento! We arrived at the first show after an intense drive through the mountains. As soon as we showed up we had to play. The next day we managed to make it to San Francisco for some fun. It was pretty cold for June, but we rode our bikes regardless. Without a doubt, San Francisco is the hardest place to cycle in America. We returned to Sacramento once more to play at the Old Brother House. The west coast really has their house shows together. We played first at 8:00PM and there were at least 50 people crammed into a living room to see us. Thanks to all the bands for helping us get the shows and playing with us. We’ll be seeing some of them later in the tour. Religious Girls, Pregnant, Megazord, Brother, and Sister Crayon. We are also profoundly grateful for the folks at Funcastle and Hank’s uncle for hosting us for three days.

Portland!

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

After waking in Seattle, we drove to Portland. There were so many bikes in this city. We got there really early, found the venue, and ventured out. Paul, Tyler, Joe, and I went to see Burnside (a famous skate park). After that I fell asleep in a park and everyone ventured about. Eventually Jenna, Hank, and I visited the worlds largest bookstore! I finally got a copy of Sartre’s Nausea and Debord’s Society of Spectacle. We joined back at the venue and played with some amazing bands. Chrome Wings, Root Beer and French Fry, and Deelay Ceelay all made this show one of the best so far. We stayed at Chrome Wing’s house, and a wall fell on Tyler.

Seattle: Really, Really, Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Fun!

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Seattle was amazing. Two days of perfect, sunny, and non-typical Seattle weather. I think I rode my bike almost non-stop for the first day. We went to Pikes Place Market and sampled some of the best food of this tour. Tyler and I managed to get out to Future Tense for about an hour and ride with some of the Seattle track bike elite. We ended up sprinting against each other through an underground tunnel. Our show at Healthy Times Fun Club was amazing. Rebbecca, Jake, and Grr! have the greatest art space I have ever seen. Rebbecca made vegan field loaf chili for us, it was delicious! Field loaf is the new Tempeh. Thanks to Big Spider’s Back, Universal Studios Florida, and Secret Colors for helping us set up the show. Seattle left me feeling that I personally belong on the West Coast for at least the next 5 years. It’s no joke now as we make our way down to Portland and California. Westside for life!
